Thomas Evans

 

         Mr. Evans is the President of the law firm of Evans Portenga, P.C., located in Muskegon.  He and his partner, Roy Portenga, limit their practice to serious personal injury cases; workers’ compensation claims; and social security disability.  The firm also does Pro Bono work on a referral basis from Legal Aid of Western Michigan.   The firm is an AV rated firm. 

 

            Tom attended Central Michigan University from 1969 through 1973.  He earned his Juris Doctor at Thomas M. Cooley Law School, in 1980. He clerked for the Hon. Robert Holmes Bell, U.S. District Court Judge, for the Western District of Michigan, from 1979 through 1980, when he was the Circuit Judge in Ingham County,

 

            He worked for Dart Oil & Gas Company, in the Legal and Land Acquisition Department, from 1980 through 1982.  After leaving Dart, he joined the law firm of Libner, VanLeuven & Kortering, a progeny of Evans Portenga. 

 

            Since 1980, he has been a member of the State Bar of Michigan.  He is also a member of the Michigan Association for Justice; American Association for Justice; U.S. District Court for the Western and Eastern Districts of Michigan; and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Sixth Circuit.

 

            Tom is also a board member of Family Promise of the Lakeshore.  Family Promise’s mission statement is to locate permanent housing for homeless families.
